VR and AR have been hailed as the “next big thing” for years, but their booms never caught on. This year we expect a mini boom in the gaming industry, but the tech isn’t quite there to make it a household product.

 

AI Taking Over The Service Industry

Artificial intelligence (AI) will obviously improve this year. Its development was the capstone of the 2010s. Experts say companies will incorporate more of the tech into their business model, but others question the lack-of the human factor and the increase of cyber attacks and security breaches that plagued consumers and companies in the last decade.

 

Everyone Riding In Self-Driving Cars

The idea of a self-driving car first came about in the 1920s when Houdina Radio Control, a radio equipment firm, used radio waves to navigate a car through New York traffic on Broadway and Fifth Avenue. A hundred years later, the idea has evolved and the tech has improved. But, after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a self-driving vehicle in 2018, regulators have cracked down on manufacturers and progress has been questionable.

 

Japan Building The Moon Base

In 2010, the Japanese space agency JAXA aimed to put robots on the moon by 2015 and build a lunar base by 2020. The moon base would be built by robots, for robots, and be completely autonomous. While none of that came to fruition, Japan has their eye on 2020 to launch the project. While it’s showing improvements, the deciding factor will be Japan’s economy.
